The team, the mission, and the company behind whoamipaying?
whoamipaying? is a UK payment-verification service that cross-checks who you’re about to pay against Companies House, HMRC VAT, bank account records (Confirmation of Payee) and public reviews in under 30 seconds.
The founder
Jim Fell founded whoamipaying? in 2024 after watching too many friends and small-business customers lose money to Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud — the category of payment scam where the victim is tricked into authorising the transfer themselves. His background is in fintech: he is also CEO of Credit Canary, a UK credit-monitoring platform, and previously ran product at Ebanking Integration Limited — the parent company that operates whoamipaying?
The company
whoamipaying? is a trading name of Ebanking Integration Limited, a UK company incorporated in April 2008 (Companies House number 06596920). Ebanking Integration builds and operates verification tools that sit alongside the UK’s open-banking and payments infrastructure.
What we check
- Confirmation of PayeeWe check the bank account number and sort code against the UK Confirmation of Payee network and compare the returned account-holder name to the invoice payee.
- Companies HouseConfirms the payee is a real, live UK company — and surfaces director changes, insolvency events and dissolved status.
- HMRC VATValidates the VAT number against HMRC’s live register. A deregistered VAT number is one of the fastest tells of invoice fraud.
- Public review signalsTrustpilot, Google reviews, DVLA vehicle records — the soft signals that catch problems the register can’t.
